【明報專訊】我現在工作的化驗室，偶然會接收動物的身體組織做病理分析。那次我收到一個「海豚食道黏膜」的活檢組織，起初十分惶恐﹕自己未曾受過獸醫訓練，如何懂得？但是我翻閱獸醫書本和研究報告，再在顯微鏡下細看之後，很快就有頭緒了。<\/p>\n

原來動物身體的細胞組織，跟人類十分相似，幾乎可說是一模一樣！組織同樣是分為上皮、結締、肌肉、神經等幾大類；細胞的排列雖然有些分別，但每個的構造、外貌、大小，以及在各個內臟擔任的職責，卻與人體病理學大同小異。我看了十多年人類病理，第一次看動物的顯微結構，感覺是既新鮮又熟悉。<\/p>\n

全港僅兩三人 收生較醫科嚴<\/p>\n

像我這般，做（人類的）病理科醫生本就屬於少數，做動物的病理科醫生更是少之又少，據說全香港就只有兩三個，其中一位是我的朋友。她先在英國的大學修讀獸醫課程，成為正式獸醫後再進修病理學專科，解剖了許多動物，學習天下各種鳥獸魚類的疾病原理，花了十多年才滿師畢業。<\/p>\n

大學收錄獸醫學生，一向比收錄醫學生嚴格，因此專門病理學的獸醫更是精英中的精英，道路漫長而孤單；若非對動物及醫學擁有無盡的熱情和理想，是很難堅持下去的。<\/p>\n

是什麼讓人類如此不同？<\/p>\n

我發現動物和人類的細胞構造如出一轍，便衍生了下一個疑問﹕究竟是什麼，令人和動物如此不同？兩者最大的分別，是人類會使用工具去改善自己的生活﹕火、耕種、織布、房屋、金屬、電器、語言和文字；而動物經過千萬年的進化，卻仍然是動物。同樣的細胞，同樣的碳、水和物質構築，是哪裏造成這個差異呢？還是，其實我們是地球的「外來者」，無論做些什麼，都注定要破壞這個星球的生態平衡？<\/p>\n
